I know, it's not the most common thing you hear from an investor, but surprisingly, there are a LOT of people looking to put their money into a film. Maybe it's for recognition, tax credits, an executive producer credit, or perhaps they are genuinely interested in becoming film producers. With so many new talented filmmakers out there promising riches and fulfillment of wild dreams, where SHOULD one put their hard earned money (or lottery winnings)?
The way I look at it, you should invest in films that will bring you extra money from all the things that are connected to that film as well. That's what I call residual income. Now, I may be biased, but I have created over 100 properties that can easily be translated into other mediums. However, out of those 100 properties, I have 7 that are the cream of the crop. These are the type of properties investors would be fighting over to get a piece of, in my humble opinion. You see, as a writer, I have crafted properties that I not only love, but that are seriously meant to be what I call "powerhouse investments".
My team consists of passionate and creative people with BUSINESS minds and Pro-Wealth saviness. Proactive Wealth is my way of saying that we as a team are prepared to explore and derive every mega-ton of income potential that our ideas create. From TV, to Video Games, Licensing and Merchandising, we know the business of filmmaking, and equally important, money making, because in the end, the more profit we make the more films we make, and the more return on your investment that you will receive.
So what type of films do we want to make? Our aim is low to midbudget films ranging from $2million to $40million. We love comic book films, horror, action, sci-fi, adventure, psychological, drama and a combination of genres. Naturally, we are storytellers and all our creations are developed by us, from concept to inception.
Let's get to the heart of the matter. For us creators, filmmaking, writing and storytelling is our greatest passion. We want nothing more than to create the BEST possible product. No cheesy films, or fly by night stories that will be forgotten. We're making history, and as history tells us, people keep coming back to it. Likewise, people will be watching our films more than once. As time goes on, new generations will discover them. This is the power of strong storytelling, and this is the key to profitable longevity in this business.
I welcome all potential investors to contact me, and see what our business plan is. This is a chance for you to think seriously about a new option in your future. All I ask is that you be open minded to beginning a long term relationship in the film and worldwide entertainment business. Let your money work for you in the field of limitless returns.
I can be reached here at Zaadz anytime so feel free to leave me a message. I look forward to meeting you :)
Sincerely,
Mark Verma, CEO

Ok, I recently exchanged emails with a friend who read my previous posting about my first film and what it should be. My friend is also looking to develop a project, but with a more spiritual tone, of meaning and dimension, perhaps with messages of peace, prosperty, and all things good. It got me thinking...
Now I know I am a pop culture enthusiast, but I do have another side to me. One that craves the "Art of Poetic Ascension", which someone humbly reminded me of as I stated eloquently in my opening Zaadz page. What is the Art of Poetic Ascension? It is whatever you interpret it to be. For me, it is a challenge to myself to exceed the boundaries of creativity in an industry that will attempt to jade me. I made a conscious decision to not let this business of entertainment change my positive outlook, nor drown the seed of my passion and conviction. I have met many a person walking with their heads down in failure, blaming someone/anyone for not buying their script, or reading their works, or giving them the chance they so richly deserve. This is what dreams can do to you, if you're not careful, and unrealistic.
Getting back to my point, about what my first film should actually be. Though I mentioned I would want to do a revenge film filled with angst and darkness, I must say that the decision to pursue it is not set in stone.
This now brings me to the power of creation. I would think that my greatest project to date is Eye of The Keeper. Though it is a dark story, it holds the elements of love, redemption, salvation, and various laws of positive attraction. It is my superhero megawork. Years in the making, and coming along very well I might add. Now, this may or may not become my first film, but it's nice to dream with one eye open.
For those of you who read my promo at www.eyeofthekeeper.com/projects.php you will know that there is so much more to this story. I've taken on some dark issues and wrapped the tale of our lone hero in a genre that we're seeing more and more on film. So, will it be my first film? Perhaps it already is.
I've been directing Eye of The Keeper on paper for a few years now. My artist has committed to a number of issues that will ensure the completion of several storylines bringing the series to a close and an end, but not a finality that will result in the completion of my passion.
As a comic creator, I have all my senses on full alert when writing the scenes and conjuring the dialogue and narratives. I close my eyes, and my series is being played out as if I were sitting in the cinema, surrounded by digital sound. Most recently, films like Sin City and 300 have literally been lifted from the printed page onto the screen. My series is much more abstract and will therefore have to be adapted to the screen...I am not without a sense of this. I can remove myself from my work and the medium in which it is created.
So perhaps my first film is already done, in the form of a comic book/graphic novel. I'm putting into it, every possible juicy element, some of which, may not make it onto the big screen. The process is absolutely fulfilling. So you may be thinking, what more could I possibly want? I think the more important question is what do I need?
I'm a writer, a dreamer, a creator, and different things to different people. Perhaps that is all I need...

My first film credited as associate producer was "My Sweet Suicide", a dark comedy. It was a good experience at the time, and I ventured into indie films with a positive outlook. Though this was my first production, it was not truly my first film. By that I mean that my first film is still a work in progress. I want to write/produce/direct something created by me.
My taste in film has always been the pop culture stuff: Quentin Tarantino, James Cameron, The Wachowski Brothers, John Woo, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Christopher Nolan, Bryan Singer, Guy Ritchie, M. Night Shyamalan, Ang Lee, Frank Miller, Robert Rodriguez and so many others are my inspirations. They've all contributed to pop culture immensely.
I'm now working on a story that not only is pop culture inspired, but in one of my favorite genre films...Revenge! Now, this is no personal reflection on my life, or situations, circumstances, experiences (hence this disclaimer). I just love revenge movies. Remember The Crow? The movie and the comic series was a masterwork! A simple story, and a never before seen way of exacting revenge on the bad guys.
What I am creating is a noir like film, a quirky character that falls into the path of revenge. Martial arts will notably play a role in the films feel and look. Visually, I have always felt that animation would play a part in this film, more as an extension of the storytelling for specific sequences. I'm looking for a particular style of animation to accompany my live action film, and thus am in the process of interviewing companies. You can bet that my film will be very stylized. After all, this is a pop culture inspired story that isn't just going to end once the film is over. I have made a conscious decision to treat this film as a series of stories (perhaps 3, but who's counting?) along with a series of Books and Comics.
Many new filmmakers want to go for that intense tear jerker/historical with sex scene drama in hopes of Oscar. Sure, that is something I want to do as well, but first things first. I'm going for the main pop culture vein to create a film that is just dark, gritty and a whole mental/internal experience to watch.
Remember the first time you saw The Crow, or The Matrix? Remember that feeling? I want you to experience that feeling again. That is what my first film will be. Something visual, visceral, engaging, and undeniable...
Stay tuned.

Now to a certain degree my title above is indeed true, however, "everywhere" is a big place, and searching for funding may get you to where you want to go, but meeting people and convincing them to invest in your dream project is another thing altogether.
I recently responded to an ad. The jist of it was that someone required a producer to come in and arrange additional financing as well as handle the task of bringing the film together while the director can concentrate on making his film. Let's call the director "Bob". Bob's ad also stated that this was a paying job, which lead me to believe that there was initial financing. I was also privy to the film's detailed budget and investment strategy. Long story short, I felt the project was viable, marketable, and potentially profitable. I met with Bob, only to discover, that there was no initial financing, and that all the "secured" locations, green screen sound stages, etc were in fact non existent. You should have seen this package. It was very well put together. It appeared legit. I even looked up "Bob" in google, and there was his name, and a link to his website and his production company.
Bob is a very young filmmaker, and like many young filmmakers, he made the one mistake that did and will in the future cost him dearly. He was not upfront and honest. I called him on his bluff and let him know that he had mislead me. He immediately felt burned and apologized. Being the nice guy that I am, I didn't create any hostilites, and still ended the meeting on a plesent note.
So to anyone seeking financing, just be honest. It WILL work, and you will be surprised how many people will walk a mile in your shoes for your project. We all know that you need someone else's hard earned money, in addition to your own resources to put a high quality low budget film together. Simply state your business in a nice package, and inform the investor how their money is going to be used.
I currently am seeking investors for my own project. Something mainstream, very marketable, and very translatable to other languages. To invest in my project means that there will be MANY avenues for profitability and residual income. My goal here is to bring investors to my projects who would like a proper return on investment. There's so much competition out there for film superiority and dominance. I am not going for either. Rather, I am going for the most marketable film. Filmmaking is a business, and when profitable, I will be making more films. I'll give you an example. "Cheerleading Kung-Fu Demons" (not the real name, I changed it for the purpose of this example) was a low budget film shot on less than cinema quailty cameras and a no-star cast, was picked up for distribution worldwide and made a very nice profit to all it's investors. Though the subject matter is obvious, and the story couldn't have been Oscar worthy, it was simple, and there was indeed a market for it. While most of us respectable writer/directors want to create meaningful content, there is a stepping stone. You've got to start somewhere. So what I am offering is a chance to be a part of a low budget film, with GOOD yet very MARKETABLE content, thus ensuring our dollars multiply. As someone who is creating and imprinting my comic book series into the pop culture world, I am getting "buzz" in this industry. Buzz means that marketing is working and reaching people. The internet is just amazing isn't it?
More info will be coming soon to inform you of the project and the opportunity to invest. I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your goals. If you're interested in chatting and discussing anything related to my site here, feel free to send me an email, or message at Zaadz. All the best.

Here's the intial press release I did for Mind Wave Entertainment, which is the company that publishes Eye of The Keeper. Note that it differs from the Eye of The Keeper launch press release, and encompasses some different information. There's no written rule as to how long or short a press release should be, as long as it really has what you want it to say. I generally try my best to make it no more than a 8.5 x 11 page long, but if it needs to be longer, so be it :o)

MIND WAVE RELEASES EYE OF THE KEEPER #1
Press Release
EYE OF THE KEEPER is a sophisticated comic book series in the dark fantasy genre. It is an intricate psychological drama of the highest caliber.
Shrouded in a mysterious futuristic city in the present day, The Keeper becomes immersed in a struggle for his sanity that began with his childhood. The Eye encompasses all associations with power and domination, providing our dark character with a purpose, but without means or conviction. His journey begins in a realm of death and depravity. Going deeper into these realms is perhaps the only way of ever surviving it. There he will discover disturbing characters and possibly find the answers to his corrupted past and tainted future.
Mark Verma, founder of Mind Wave Entertainment and Creator and Writer for Eye of The Keeper has crafted a daring and mind numbing story of darkness and chaos, putting this genre of comics in a psychological blender overflowing with deep thoughts and imbalanced emotions. “This is the darkest side of the super anti-hero. Each issue builds upon the characters and unusual situations into a fever pitch crescendo. You’ll find sadness and horror with a fusion of martial arts and poetry. Ultimately, this is a story about survival in a world with incalculable power. I’m delving into the deconstruction of omnipotence on a backdrop of abuse and violence.”
ISSUE #1 of EYE OF THE KEEPER launches at the Canadian National Comic Book Expo located at The Metro Toronto Convention Centre August 26 -28, 2005.
Our first issue will also be available online through our website: www.EyeOfTheKeeper.com
Eye of The Keeper is an ongoing series, 32 pages, Black and White with a Full Color Cover. Created and Written by Mark Verma, artwork by Ariel Iacci.
Mark Verma founded Mind Wave Entertainment in August of 1993 with the goal of developing high quality comic books, producing films, and other media. This is the first press release done for my comic book series, Eye of The Keeper. Since I got such a great response after it was posted, I thought I would add it here as part of my portfolio. Press releases generally encompass similar structures, but each is tailered to your business. In this case, it was for a comic book, and therefore it has a comic book feel as well.

For immediate release:
Eye of The Keeper Launches Official Website!
It's finally here! The official Eye of The Keeper website is complete and ready for your viewing pleasure. We've got previews of our upcoming issues, and lots of merchandise in our store such as Comic Books, Prints, Trading Cards and T-Shirts. There's also a Forum and Blog where we'll be posting special bits of info, like contests and events.
Gothic undertones, inner demons, violence and madness. The mind of Charles Caustin Calloway is corrupt. The Crying City casts a shadow of never ending tears. Dark retribution descends from the sky. Murder and blame fall upon The Keeper...Enter a world of controlled anarchy, where revenge is the unfortunate path towards eternity, where power lacks conviction, where truth is denied by mere perception alone. A cerebral war is being waged…Victories become a casualty of the inner psyche…The consequence of absolute power is redefined by The Eye, a window to a soul without a body.
Eye of the Keeper is a sophisticated comic book series in the dark fantasy genre. It is an intricate psychological drama of the highest caliber. Imagine a hero lost in his own gothic perception of himself, while his horrid past of abuse and violence is constantly slicing at his heels. What kind of a hero will he be? His tormented journey of self-discovery takes place in The Crying City, a futuristic metropolis set in the present day. His power all comes from a talisman called The Eye, which locks onto his chest, and perhaps into his genetic structure. He is alone, without power and conviction. All he wants to do is die, but that isn't for him either, because first he has to figure out why he is being accused of murder, genocide, and corruption. This is an epic human story with cosmic repercussions.
“I like to think of it as the Rise of a Dark Hero”, says Mark Verma, creator and writer of the series. “This story is a chance for readers to get on board for the beginning of a new character, with a new twist on this type of genre. Everything that I love about the superhero genre has been a well of inspiration. We’ve got some harsh realities to deal with in the story, which will heighten the feel for our readers and immerse them in the world that is Eye of The Keeper. Prepare for things to get worse before they get better, for all the characters”.
Three issue introductory Art by Ariel Iacci. Ongoing series art by Fernando Rafael Campos (aka Kiro).
We're proud to bring to you Eye of The Keeper, a sophisticated comic book series. Enjoy! www.EyeOfTheKeeper.com
